Yoga & Meditation

What is yoga?


The word yoga comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. It is a derivation of the word yuj, which means yoking, as in a team of oxen. In contemporary practice, this is often interpreted as meaning union. Yoga is said to be for the purpose of uniting the mind, body, and spirit.


The kind of yoga we practice:



Scaravelli Yoga is simple and gentle, working with the fundamentals of the breath, gravity and release of the spine. Using these fundamentals it works from the ground up, observing our contact with the ground as a foundation stone for everything else we do higher up. It works quite naturally with the body’s own structure and function, releasing us from stiffnesses and habitual patterns of tension.




What is meditation?

Meditation is being simple means being ourselves. It means passing beyond self consciousness, self analysis and self rejection.


What is the purpose of meditation?

This is our day of sharing food. Food which is fresh, colourful and wholesome. A time to be in good company with good food.


  • We cook and eat together, creating times of contentment.
  • If you are coming bring a container!




What are the classes like?



A friendly focussed class: small number, so lots of time for individual attention. We work on posture, strength, relaxation and breathing.



Our instructer is the wonderful Lucy Barnes.
